More than a dozen workers installing large, steel tanks at a mine site northwest of Elko were taken to the hospital this morning, apparently suffering exposure to unknown fumes.
Barrick Gold spokesman Lou Schack said 15 contract employees working on an above ground expansion experienced nausea or headaches just after 8:00 this morning. Two of the exposed workers were treated onsite, while 13 were taken by ground ambulance to NNRH.
While officials arent sure of the source of the apparent contamination, the construction site remains evacuated, and an investigation is continuing.
Schack said none of the workers lost consciousness and all were able to walk out of the tanks on their own. The Barrick property and construction site is 50 miles northwest of Elko. |
