Canadian gold company Barrick will pay a $25,000 fine issued by the Department of Environment and Conservation for an environmental incident occurring at its Kanowna operations in November 2006.
The DEC's Environmental Enforcement Unit and Goldfields Region alleged that the company caused a spill of tailings at the facility, north of Kalgoorlie, which had an adverse impact on local vegetation.
In a statement, the company said it was prepared to pay the fine, and said it had cooperated with authorities to ensure effective containment of the spilled materials.
Barrick has conducted rehabilitation works as per its commitments at the time of the spill since the incident, the company said in an announcement.
