Youth groups that demand the cancelation of the contract with the mining company Barrick Gold announced Tuesday that theyll heighten their fight with a novel walk called To the capital in reverse." In a statement the youngsters who filed suit to halt the works of the Canada based company say that To the capital in reverse said it will set off from the northeastern town Cotui on Thursday morning, November 4, after a blessing by several parish priests and pastors of the area. They expect to arrive at Santo Domingo on Monday, November 8 and head to Congress and then to the National Palace, where theyll deliver a document with a list of the reasons they demand voiding the Barrick Gold contract for the gold mining operation in Cotu. The walk will feature the groups slogan: Whats good for Barrick is neither good for Cotu nor the country, a play in words for the miners ad campaign. |
