At last a post-mortem on four bodies out of the five people who were
shot dead by the Police at Africa Barrick Gold�s North Mara goldmine was
conducted yesterday under the supervision of the Chama cha Maendeleo na
Demokrasia (Chadema). The exercise, which was carried out by a doctor from Tarime Hospital, identified only by the name of Dr Makata and another private medical specialist, Dr Gilshon Nyakarungu, started around 10am in the presence of a representative of the affected families. Speaking to journalists here, Chadema lawyer Tundu Lissu said that the exercise went as planned. Mr Lissu said that the aim of the post-mortem was to identify exactly which parts of the bodies of the deceased were shot by the Police. He explained that people knew that the deaths were caused by bullets but didn�t know which parts of the bodies were affected by the bullets. He said the examination would help them to find out if they were killed accidentally or police intended to kill them. �Normally if you shoot a person on the head it means you intended to kill them. However, if you shoot them on the leg it means you tried to stop them from doing something� this exercise will help us to know the Police�s intention,� he explained. Mr Lissu said preparations for the burial of the four were underway, adding that they will be buried in Nyamongo today. �We have discussed and agreed with the Police on how the exercise would be conducted,� he said. |
