Protest Barrick Toronto joins Anti-Poverty Day of Action

by Protest Barrick Toronto

Rally in solidarity with the thousands of poor folk exploited by Canadian Mining Corporations around the world!

Today's Activities: 1. Tabling & clowns & rally: Wed. Sept. 26th - noon to 2 p.m. at the Hart House "Creative Sustainability Fair", 7 Hart House Circle (near Harbord & St. George), with Global Aware and social activist clowns doing a satirical skit on open-pit mining.

At 2 p.m. we will join the "feeder march" to join the Queen's Park rally with OCAP and unions. The rally is against poverty. There will be an anti-mining contingent there led by Protest Barrick Toronto.

2. Barrick protest on Bay Street. Thurs. Sept. 27th - 4:00 p.m. to about 5:30 p.m. 161 Bay Street, BCE Place / TD tower (east side of Bay, north of Front, walk from Union station).

Join other conscientious people who oppose the human rights violations and environmental devastation caused by Barrick Gold. We hand out literature, hold banners, build solidarity and talk to the public. Public reception to date has been very positive, proving that this effort is worthwhile.

These rallies are building up to the May 2nd Barrick AGM in 2008. We have the further goal of being an effective direct action arm of the movement to effect much-needed law reform in Canada, to regulate the industrial open-pit mining industry.
